"Chessmen of Marx" stars Groucho as Johnny Cartenhorser, Chico and Harpo as Martians, and Margaret Dumont as Dejah View Thoris.

Heh. Good one! :)

My first thought was that "Chessmen of Marx" is a movie about a group of budding socialists in the 19th century who are manipulated into doing unthinkable things by The Communist Manifesto. ;-)

Thus crystallizing the Firesign Test: when you think "Marx," do you think "Karl" or "Groucho"? A similar test, for sound, occurs for "Lenin"/"Lennon," but typing that gives the game away.

Heh. I must be somewhere in the middle, then, because I think "Karl" about 75% of the time, but I think "Lennon" about 90% of the time. ;-)

Given you call yourself a "working class superhero," that's about right, isn't it?

Actually, yeah, I think you're right. ;-)

On the other hand, I think of Karl rather than Groucho, Harpo, and Chico pretty much every time (for example, I immediately went to revolutionary cabals when I read "Chessman of Marx"), and I'm a fairly strict libertarian. It may be a matter of "interest" more than "sympathy."

Just to make things clear, I am not a Marxist. I think you already know that, but I just wanted to make sure.

I had not supposed you were a Marxist. But you do call yourself a "working class superhero," which is what I was referring to as "sympathy."

I'd read Chessmen of Marx, but I'd insist on starting with A Princess of Marx and reading the whole series in order.

It's a good thing they changed it from the original title, "Under the Moons of Marx."
