Writer's Block: This is a Recording

If you were to make an album consisting of only covers, which songs would you pick to sing?

Hmm. Interesting question. And not outside the realm of possibility, either.

If I were to do a solo album of covers, I think it would consist of (in no particular order):

  1. "Your Dictionary" by XTC
  2. "The Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego
  3. "Stranger Than You" by Joe Jackson
  4. "The Old Dun Cow" by Harold Champion, et al.
  5. "Happy Jack's Undrinkable Ale" by Stu Venable
  6. "Pinch Me" by the Barenaked Ladies
  7. "Superman" by Five For Fighting
  8. "The Mermaid" (traditional)
  9. "Love the One You're With" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash
  10. "Her Majesty" by the Beatles

Now, if the band were to do a covers album, the selections would be a little different:

  1. "Bohemian Like You" by the Dandy Warhols
  2. "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull
  3. "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" by Chris Isaac
  4. "Before You Accuse Me" by Bo Diddley
  5. "Sonja Blue" by Allison Lonsdale
  6. "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan
  7. "Come Together" by the Beatles
  8. "Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who
  9. "Blue On Black" by the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band
  10. and probably also "The Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego
