Taking the phrase to new levels...

I've heard the saying "that dog looks like a mop" before, but it's never applied quite so ... literally.

Those are called "pulis" and they are a very expensive breed of dog that I used to be terrified would come into my shop when I was a dog groomer. They really are supposed to look that way. This picture is a great example!

Sorry... that is actually a komondor. Pulis are smaller.

Yup. From what I hear, they're an Eastern European breed.

And, yeah, geesh! Grooming? That's like a Rastafarian asking you to comb his hair! ;-)

The official term is "corded breeds". The unofficial term (that is, what groomers say when they are out of customer earshot) is "rasta-dog. However, that is also the term that we (privately) use for any dog that comes in heavily matted. But there is an actual grooming technique for the breeds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cording_%28dog_grooming%29). I've only seen it done once, and, thankfully, never had to do it myself. However, the OTHER term for them is "little doggy dollar-signs" as there are groomers who specialize in these breeds, and they make a lot of money on them.

Yeah, I'll bet they do. Thanks, but if I'm going to own a dog, I'm not gonna want it to get mistaken for a cleaning tool. ;-)

Absolutely!

When I was thinking about which breed to get, one of the things that was REALLY important to me was a coat that was easy to maintain. Hence... corgi.
