It's getting to be time for Or It Didn't Happen Photography to make its debut, and I still need some crazy things to put into the gallery! So, to that end, if you are a performer of stunts—be it unicycling, juggling, fire-spinning, fire-breathing, sword-swallowing, BASE jumping, trick-riding (horses, bicycles, motorcycles, etc.), mountain climbing, or even professional stuntwork—please let me know so that I can talk to you about photographing your act.

IMPORTANT: Please not that I will only work with performers who follow all safety precautions for their chosen stunt. No rank amateurs* are allowed, and no claims of "Oh, I've done this hundreds of times; I don't need safety procedures" will fly with me. I'll photograph some crazy stuff, but I will not have anyone's death or injury on my hands!

So . . . if you have an act that could fall into the category of "derring-do", let me know, and we'll work out a deal. Thanks!

-------

EDIT: *There's a difference, however, between a rank amateur and a beginner. Even if you're not very good yet at what you do, as long as you make sure that you practice safely, that's enough for me. By "no rank amateurs", I mean no one who just does it on a dare or for the thrill of it. One reads about those kinds of people all the time in the Darwin Awards.

I would volunteer but I've only just started to learn to fire spin. I always work with safety procedures though.

Well, one of what I consider my best photos is of a beginning fire-spinner. If you can do it without setting yourself or anything else on fire (except the spinning things, of course), that's good enough for me. (I assume you'd have a friend standing by with a fire extinguisher or some such, right?)

My point, I suppose, is that there's a difference between a "beginner" and a "rank amateur". The one knows how to be safe. The other just does it for the thrill and usually ends up Darwin Award material. ;-)

Very true. My sister and I trade off as fire watch, the poi belong to her but she is letting me learn on them.

Perfect. Like I said, as long as you're safe, I'm willing to work with you. What do you think?

My sister and I have talked and once she has a chance to get some more white gas and a new safety blanket sure.

Fantastic. Do you know when that might be?

If I pester her about it some time in the next week.

Excellent! If we can make it some time this weekend, that would be awesome. :)

Well, you may have read that I had to have surgery again, so I'm delaying the launch of my photography business. I'd still love to photograph your fire-spinning, but I need to postpone it for a little while, at least until my foot heals.

I did read that. I would still love to. I haven't had much chance to pester my sister.

Okay, cool. I likely won't be able to do much until at least the weekend of the 12th of May, possibly later. I'll let you know.

Have you considered coming out to the Renaissance Faire to shoot? Jugglers, Fire-breathers, musicians, belly dancers, polynesian dancers, archery, axe throwing... seems like you could get a LOT in in one day.
And I have a single free ticket left, plus I can get you additional ones for a discounted price if you wanted to bring a friend. 5 weekends left including this one.

That's a really good idea. Teri and I are making the trip up on May 12th, so I might just do that. :) (Not to mention there's the mini-Faire down here next weekend and the weekend after, which I had completely forgotten about.)

Yes, I'd love to have that ticket. How much are the discounted ones? I can send you the money for one via PayPal or some other means. Thanks!

I get participant tickets for $19.50.

Just let me know what day you're coming, and I'll have both tickets waiting for you in an envelope at Will Call. (You can just toss me a $20 when you arrive.)

As you may have read, I had to have surgery on Wednesday, and I think it's unlikely that I'll be healed up enough to go to Faire on the 12th as I'd planned. And I might not be able to come up at all before Faire closes. My apologies.

You might check out Technomania Circus; I've seen some impressive balancing, tumbling, juggling, etc. at their shows.
