Movies: CoN:VotDT, PiB, IQ

  1. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader — ***1/2 (out of 5)
Considering that Prince Caspian was a tad disappointing after The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I expected this one to be worse yet, but I was pleasantly surprised.

  2. Puss in Boots — ***1/2
This one was just fun. Not quite as good as Shrek or Shrek II, but still very entertaining. And, of course, I could listen to Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek all day.

  3. IQ — ***1/2
An old one that Teri had and thought I'd like, and she was right. Walter Matthau makes a surprisingly good Albert Einstein. Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins are still quite young, and both do a wonderful job. As does Tony Shalhoub as the garage owner. Yes, it's a romantic comedy, but it's not a cripplingly embarrassing one (which, for me, is nearly all of them).

B and I missed Voyage of the Dawn Treader when it was in theatrical release, so I'm glad to learn that you liked it. We'll rent it soon. Puss in Boots and IQ we'll probably pass on. Shrek II seemed a little tired to me, so my enthusiasm for PiB is lacking. As for IQ, well, it's a rom com. (However, I did like Midnight in Paris and Crazy, Stupid Love, both of which I saw without B in the theater, as he detests rom coms, so what do I know.)

I saw Midnight in Paris because it was a birthday gift and because it is partially set in turn-of-the-century Paris, a time and place I really like. Crazy, Stupid Love was my birthday gift in turn to a friend.

The only other rom com I remember seeing is My Super Ex-Girlfriend which B and I like, and happen to own a copy of. Of course it's about super powers. We can loan it to you, if you'd like.

I tried watching MSEG and couldn't get past the first date scene. It was too embarrassing, I'm afraid.
